City Web Page Update

City Web Page Update

The City of South Gate Police Department has recently completed an addition to the City's web-site that will serve as an information source giving residents, business owners and school officials valuable information regarding any "on-going" emergency situation that may have an impact on our community members.

The Police Emergency Update window will be located on the home page of the City's web-site and will appear only when there is emergency information to be announced, otherwise the window will not be visible. Police Department Watch Commanders are responsible for placing emergency information on the web-site and will use discretion as to what information will be announced. Generally speaking, information about incidents that occur in the city of South Gate or that directly impact the City in a manner that may cause some disruption to normal activities should be announced. When applicable, notice will be given as to what actions community members may chose to take regarding a specific incident.

Examples of incidents that may appear in the Police Emergency Update window include:

  • Long term traffic jams
  • Long term police helicopter activity
  • Unexpected road closures
  • Police block searches
  • School lock downs

This new information source is intended to increase the public's awareness regarding unusual events that impact our City. Another intended advantage of the information window is that it may reduce the large volume of unnecessary telephone calls made to the Police Dispatch Center during times of unusual events - when open emergency lines are most critical.

Thank you for your assistance and participation.
