Residents Can "Cool-off" at South Gate Park Senior Center

Summer is here and along with our normal beautiful weather will also come a few "extreme heat" days that can be a health concern for some of our older residents. Because of this, on days of extreme heat, the City provides a "cooling station" program that ensures that the City's Senior Center, located at 4855 Tweedy Bl. (South Gate Park) will be open for our Seniors, those with health issues and anyone else who needs to get out of the heat for a little while.

The cooling station does not provide provisions or medical care, but is staffed and provides for those who need it a place to gain a little relief from the heat. Transportation for senior citizens can be obtained through the City's Phone-A-Ride program (323-262-3497). The South Gate Senior Center's regular hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. During days of extreme heat, the center is also open weekends and weekday afternoons as needed. For more information, please contact the Senior Center staff at 323-357-9662.
