"The Gate" New Bus Service Now Stops at South Gate Park

The "Get Around Town Express" or "The GATE" for short began operating on May 3, 2010. This new bus line, operated by the City is designed to serve the West side of South Gate and assist residents in reaching important local destinations as well as connecting with several METRO lines and South Gate Park.

The Gate runs every 15 minutes, Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 7:00pm and on Saturdays from 8:00am to 6:00pm, with no service on Sundays for the time being. The cost is 50 cents per ride. A map of the precise route can be accessed below and is also available at the City's Transportation office at South Gate Park, located at 9520 Hildreth Ave.

The City received a federal Department of Transportation grant to purchase two 22 passenger buses which run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). These low emission buses are small enough to operate on some of the smaller city streets in South Gate, allowing the new line to fill the gaps where the larger METRO buses cannot operate.

The remainder of the bus lines operating costs will be paid for through the City's Proposition A Transportation fund. These funds are provided by Los Angeles County and can only be used for public transportation programs. There are no General Fund dollars being used to provide this service.
