Engineering

The primary responsibility of the Engineering Division is the design and construction of the City's infrastructure (streets, water system, sewer system, storm drain system, park facilities, City buildings, and transportation/traffic systems), including the design and administration of the annual Capital Improvement Program. Engineering staff also provide support to the Community Development Department in reviewing private development proposals and their impact on City facilities and resources. Engineering is also responsible for the Geographic Information System (GIS).

The City of South Gate has a very ambitious Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), involving over 30 projects and valued at over $25 million. Most of the funding for these projects comes from federal, state, and local grant funds.
