Senior Activities

The South Gate Senior Center offers a variety of activities for all those who strive to stay young at heart. From fitness classes, to crafts, even great excursions at a minimum price. We also offer a home delivery meal program and lunch program for those who are eligible. For more information please contact us at (323) 357-9662.

WEEKDAY ACTIVITIES SCHEDULE:

MONDAY:

Seniors Dancing for Exercise & Fun

Bring your friend and join the seniors in learning new and exciting dances from all over the world. This class also meets Tuesday and Friday.

FREE TAX SERVICE FOR SENIORS ONLY

AARP will be providing tax services on Tuesday's begining February 1 - April 13. Call today to make an appointment (323) 357-9662, no walk-in's will be available. These services are only available to senior citizens.

WEDNESDAY:

Handy Crafters

Everyone is welcome to come and assist us in making different knitting projects to take to the convalescent hospitals. It's rewarding to do things for others.

This class is only offered on the 2nd & 4th. Wednesday of each month. Esta clase solamente se ofrece el segundo y cuarto Miércoles de cada mes.

Lotería

Join us in playing that famous Mexican bingo game, you don't have to speak the language to enjoy the game!! This activity only takes place on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month.

Cultural Studies USA (Spanish)

This is a Multi-Level class, from beginning to advanced. The class meets Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:15 pm - 3:15 pm. It's a wonderful learning environment. Instructor for this class will be Ana Martinez. This class is provided by the South Gate Adult School.

Has your doctor ordered you to loose weight, but you can't find a class that will go at a slower pace? This class will help you take pounds off sensibly.

Fine Arts

For all levels of artistry. This crafts and fine arts class isa Cultural Studies USA partnership,providing interesting uses of mixed-mediums to create wonderful art projects. Open to all adults.

SENIOR PORGRAMS:

  • Breakfast for Seniors: The Old Timer's Foundation has started a breakfast program for all seniors. Join us for a hot, healthy, and delicious breakfast. Remember, it's the most important meal of the day! (This program will be available through September.) Breakfast will only take place Monday - Friday, 8:00am-9:00am.
  • Health Screenings & Seminars: Regular health screenings and informational programs geared for seniors are provided by local health care organizations at the South Gate Senior Center. For more information on these weekly health screenings and seminars, please contact the South Gate Senior Center (323) 357-9662.
  • Home Delivered Meals: Home delivered meals are available for homebound seniors. For more information on eligibility and meal deliveries please call the Old Timer's Foundation at (323) 582-6090.
  • Senior Lunch Program: For our over 60 patrons! Come enjoy a hot and hearty meal!For more information call Enedina Reynoso, Site Manager (323) 357-9674.Monday - Friday Space is Limited! - Please plan to arrive between 11 - 11:30am.

SENIOR EXCURSIONS:

Registrations are held at the Girls Club House, Office Hours are Monday—Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Registration is only accepted in person and fees must be paid when you register. All departures leave from the front of the Girls Club House. REGISTRATION NUMBERS WILL BE HANDED OUT ON A FIRST-COME FIRST SERVED BASIS BEGINNING AT 7:00 A.M. AT THE GIRLS CLUB HOUSE IN SOUTH GATE PARK 4940 SOUTHERN AVENUE (323) 563-5447. NO REFUNDS FOR CANCELLATIONS OR "NO SHOWS" THE DAY OF THE TRIP!
