Common Code Violations
The following violations are prohibited by the South Gate Municipal Code, Title 9, Chapter, 9.48, Property Maintenance, Substandard Property, 9.48.030;
- Overgrown vegetation.
- Weeds, debris.
- Vehicles parked on non-paved surface (private property only).
- Inoperative or abandoned vehicles.
- Discarded items such as furniture, stoves refrigerators.
- Trash cans stored in front and/or side yard.
- Junk and debris stored in front, side, and rear yards or on parkway area past trash pick up day.
- Clotheslines in the front yard.
- Any device, decoration, design, fence, structure, clothesline, or vegetation which is unsightly due to its condition or its inappropriate location.
- Anachronistic signs, these are signs which advertise a use, product or service that is no longer offered on the property.

- Lack of hot or cold running water
- Deteriorated flooring, walls, ceilings, or roofs.
- Hazardous wiring.
- Faulty plumbing.
- Lack of safe, adequate heating facilities.
- Broken windows or doors.
- Faulty materials of construction.
- Improper occupancy or the use of portions of buildings for any purpose for which they were not intended.

- Abandoned and unfinished buildings or portions thereof which are open or vandalized.
- Unpainted buildings or buildings which paint has cracked, chipped, or faded.

- Canopy type structures.
- Parking of vehicles on unimproved surfaces.
- Parking of vehicles within front setback area of any residential property whether paved or not.
- Land use regulations.
- Signs (requires Planning Division approval and permit).
- A-frame or portable signs are prohibited.
- Temporary signs such as banners, pennants, balloons, cold air balloons require Planning Division approvals, and required sign permit.
- Signs in the public right of way or on City property are prohibited.
- Fences heights.
