Explorers

The Explorer program offers the youth of the community an opportunity to interact with the police personnel and to develop an understanding of law enforcement. Explorers must be at least 14 years of age, have at least a 2.0 grade point average, and may participate until the age of 21. All explorers attend an Explorer Academy and are trained in the different divisions of the Police Department. This program not only provides many services to the City and the Department, but also proves to be a valuable training ground for future police officers with the South Gate Police Department.

To join the Explorer program, obtain an interest form at the Police Department front counter. Interest forms are due no later than August 1, 2008 for the next academy class which begins Saturday, September 6th.
