Treasurer Rudy Navarro

Treasurer Rudy Navarro

Rudy was first elected Treasurer of the City of South Gate during the historic recall election in January 2003 and re-elected in March 2005. He was born and raised in the City of South Gate.

Being one of three children, Rudy is proud of the fact that he is the first member of my family to get accepted to a major university, San Diego State. Unfortunately due to financial difficulties Rudy came just short of earning his degree. Rudy is currently attending school to earn that degree.

While in college, Rudy witnessed and experienced many of the same struggles that most college students face as they wrestle with financial and academic responsibilities while acclimating to life as an adult. He decided to become a role model and mentor for students like himself by becoming a student advocate, working on issues of retention, class affordability, educational diversity, out reach and student life. In addition, Rudy would return to South Gate High School on a regular basis to promote the rewards of higher education.

Rudy began his financial career as a junior staff accountant for a local bank in San Diego, California. He quickly worked his way up to achieve the position of Business Development Officer where he was responsible for obtaining new clients, maintaining account efficiency and maximization of client portfolios with low to moderate risk for over 250 corporate clients worldwide. Rudy is now a part of Staffmark, a leading providers of customized staffing solutions. As branch manager for one of the companies most profitable branches, Rudy's main duties are to ensure top quality professionals for business ranging from Fortune 500 Companies to small businesses nation wide.

Since Rudy was elected he has accomplished a variety of things. Every promise that he has made, he has kept. With the help of the State Controller's office and federal authorities, Rudy led the effort to audit the city's finances, recover city money and put South Gate back on the track to fiscal health. Rudy reduced the City Treasurer's Office operating budget to a savings of over $300,000. Rudy worked along side the new director of finance to introduce a new investment policy that allows South Gate's investment portfolio to maximize its operating income earnings and reduce risk. Since Rudy was elected he has worked tirelessly to make the City Treasure's Office a true asset to this city. Rudy has the energy, experience, track record and drive to truly serve the community of South Gate.
