Councilwoman Maria Davila

Maria Davila was elected to the South Gate City Council on January 28, 2003, was re-elected on March 3, 2003 and March 6, 2007 for an additionalfour year term. On March 28, 2006, Councilwoman Davila was selected as Mayor for a one year term after having served as Vice Mayor for a year. As a Member of the City Council, she shares responsibilities with the City Council to set policies and goals for the community.

Councilwoman Davila was born in Michoacan, Mexico, and immigrated to the United States when she was a child. She attended Bell Graham Elementary School, South Gate Middle School, South Gate High School and graduated from Gary High School in Pomona. Councilwoman Davila married and returned to South Gate where she has resided for the past 20 years. She is a proud mother of four, all of which are currently attending Los Angeles Unified School District schools in South Gate.

Councilwoman Davila takes special interest as a mother and Council Member in the betterment of the lives of children by shepherding the development and maintenance of South Gate educational and recreational programs for all in the community.

Councilwoman Davila's involvement in her children's education is very important to her. She has been a parent volunteer since 1994. She has been a member of the PTA, School Site Council, Title 1, Bilingual Committee, a Magnet Representative, and a Healthy Start Parent Representative for San Miguel Avenue Elementary School. She served on the South Gate Middle School PTA, School Site Council, Title 1 for a two year term, and as a Magnet Representative. She continues to volunteer in her children's schools and in various community events and organizations.

Councilwoman Davila was employed with Human Services Association for five years where she worked as a Medi-Cal Outreach worker, Medi-Cal Outreach Coordinator, and as the Medi-Cal Outreach Ombudsman for one year.
