Gateway Project
The City of South Gate will soon have one of the largest new shopping centers in Los Angeles County. A $175 million outdoor mall called The Gateway is planned for the vacant site near theintersection of Atlantic and Firestone Boulevards. The Gateway will have 2 or 3 large retail stores as well as several sit-down restaurantsand retail outlets.
The design of the center will feature large plazas and intimate outdoor dining alcoves, oversized signs, projected images, water features, and a 200 foot long LCD projection screen where diners and shoppers alike can watch their favorite game, promotional or entertainment video. The center will be colorful, busy and modern - unlike anything currently found in the U.S. To find something similar, you will have to travel to Europe or Asia.
City officials are still working with the developers to determine what outlets will occupy the site with decisions expected shortly. Once the project is complete in late 2009, it will generate much-needed additional revenue to the City.
