Recycle "It is Easy to be Green"

Why Recycle?
Americans generate more and more trash each year - about 4.6 pounds of trash per person each day - but most of it can be recycled. Recycling is good for the local community and the environment - it conserves natural resources, reduces pollution and cuts down on the amount of waste that is landfilled.

On average, it takes less energy to a make a bottle or can from recycled materials than mined resources. By using recycled materials, we also cut down on drilling and digging for oil and minerals. Making products from recycled materials also usually results in less air and water pollution than making products from mined materials. In addition, recycling helps conserve landfill space by keeping these materials out of the landfill site. This helps the City to meet the state mandate established by AB 939 to divert at least 50% of materials from landfills.

More importantly, recycling is easy! All you have to do is separate recyclable materials such as glass bottles, aluminum cans and newspaper from regular trash and put these materials in your recycling cart on collection day.

Benefits of Recycling
Recycling turns materials that would otherwise become waste into valuable resources. In addition, it generates a host of environmental, financial, and social benefits. Materials like glass, metal, plastics, and paper are collected, separated and sent to facilities that can process them into new materials or products.
  • Conserve resources for our children's future
  • Prevent emissions of many greenhouse gases and water pollutants
  • Save energy
  • Supply valuable raw materials to industry
  • Create jobs
  • Stimulate the development of greener technologies
  • Reduce the need for new landfills and incinerators
